It’s time for a budthroscopy again, this time of my Cattleya intermedia var. orlata. You can see that she is dishing up two flowers this time around. Oh what fun! You can se the last budthroscopy of a Prostechea cochleata here.
Ms. Cattleya is feeling shamefully good this spring… the new shoot is nearly twice as big as the ones from last year and she also is producing a lot of excess glucose.
The little glittering drops seen both on the cane and on the bud are harmless and a sign that she is doing very well. Some claim you should wipe off the drops with a damp cloth or it might attract pests or fungus, but there are split views on this and I have never had any problems. I find the glucose drops quite beautiful. I will however keep an eye on the flower sheath so it will open ok when the buds are ready to come out. The glucose can act like a glue if in the wrong spot…
