This mini Cattleya comes from the German grower Karge and it is even named after their town. It is a small plant measuring about 20 cm tall altogether but with rather large flowers in relation to the plant. The delicate lavender flowers measure almost 8 cm accross. It is not really my type normally, but it faithfully blooms two or three times a year so I just cannot help but to like it. I grow it hanging in the north-east window under supplemental light mounted on a clay pipe filled with water. The water slowly seep out of the porous clay keeping the pipe constantly wet, not enough to water the plant, but I would imagine the humidity immediately around the roots is slightly elevated and the plant seem to like it. What originally intrigued me was actually this mount, and it is looking better and better the more bulbs it is producing slowly working its way around the pipe – one day to finally cover it completely.
