This is the first time this flashy little Restrepia is blooming for me and I have really been looking forward to it. The colors and patterns of the large fused lateral sepals, the defining character of Restrepia, can be quite stunning. Restrepia muscifera is one of the most incredible of them all. I love the distinct purple dots contrasting against the bright yellow and white – even the bud is beautiful. The leaves are amazingly colored as well, and apparently this is not unusual among Pleurothallids. A friend just informed me that the reason the leaves on the Trichosalpinx species I published a few days ago are red as a response to me growing it a little bit too cool. Fascinating, really…
Restrepia muscifera is a small size epiphyte from Central to South America where it grows in tropical rainforests and mountain cloudforests at elevations of 300-2500 meters. I grow mine in the cool vivarium, rather bright and humid, mounted on a wooden stick attached to an EpiWeb branch.
Another real beauty, I can see I’m going to re-start my Pleuro collection again if you keep this up.
Bill.
Ha ha… thanks! Well I can turn you back this Pleuros it would be a very, very good thing. The more the better, before the cloud forests disappear. This is an exceptional little species, hard not to love. 🙂
…exstraordinary plant…!
