Orchid blog
This blog is dormant at the moment, but it is still getting a lot of visitis so I will keep it up for you guys as a resource. My future adventures will be published on my new blog, hope to see you there!
My focus… if pressed to name favorites it would have to be orchids of the Pleurothallid Alliance. But a Paphiopedilum was the first orchid I ever fell in love with so slipper orchids will always be close to my heart, and while we are on the subject I might as well disclose a love affair with Neofinetia as well.
Masdevallia meets Madame La Guillotine
I have been tiptoeing around my two Masdevallia tovarensis for weeks now watching the little buds grow - but they grow oh sooooo slow!! And then last night I managed to break off one of the most developed buds, the one almost ready to open up! A quick slash, a gasp for air, followed by the agonising cries from the loved ones (that would be me) as the plump little bud rolled down the windowsill... [...]
A true gem of a nice vintage
It is easy to see where the inspiration for the name of this gorgeous Paphiopedilum Vinicolor came from... from a nice vintage of light-styled classic Pinot Noir in the dorsal sepal, to a deep ripe Syrah through the petals and lip. I bought this nice plant in bud from Orchidéhuset a few weeks ago, so I cannot take credit for the flowers, but I am enjoying them all the same. The flowers are large, almost 12 cm [...]
A taste of Peru in Gothenburg
If only all weekends were this fun. The order from Peru Flora in Peru, with a quick layover in Germany at Orchids & More, came in on Friday. So, this was my view for morning coffee Saturday. Nice! I spent a very pleasant morning (or better part of the day) doting over the new arrivals, re-potting and mounting, teaching them how to to say beautiful in Swedish (vacker)... eh well, perhaps not that last part. But [...]
Dang! The Leptotes bud failed…
I know you have all been holding your breath, crossing both fingers and toes, hoping this latest little Leptotes unicolor bud would make it... but alas. No dice. Number 5 in order to go to an early grave... tough to watch. I appreciate all the positive energy coming this way though. Perhaps better luck next season.
Leptotes unicolor budreport
The bud is still hanging on this morning... and it is looking good. Last time it bloomed I had it in the nano-vivarium, and the growing conditions in this vivarium are so much better, so I really cannot figure out what the problem is. At this point I am keeping both fingers and toes crossed hoping it will make it all the way. Stay tuned... ...and as promised. Here are a few more photos of the tropical [...]
Leptotes unicolor bud blasts
This is the most frustrating thing ever... My Leptotes unicolor is setting bud after bud that inevitably blasts (shrivels up and dies) before maturing to flower. I have watched at least 4 buds go the past few weeks and there is currently a new bud on the way. It is at the critical stage when all the previous ones have failed and I am desperately trying to figure out what to do! I have doubled [...]
