Here is my growing window at the moment… a few orchids (5) are missing since I move them into the kitchen when they are blooming so we can enjoy them more.
I have three 23W low energy CFL’s at the top (6000K, 96 CRI with an output of 1020 lumen). Then I have a “nebula hobby” light hanging from the middle shelf (6500, 85 CRI with an output of 9600 lumen). I have some white nylon canvas shielding the baby orchid greenhouses. Under the purple and black hat in the window I am hiding a humidifier (you are not supposed to keep the water container in direct sunlight – hence the hat).
I also had to put up a “shield” of the same nylon on the nebula light so we can sit in the couch in front of the window to enjoy the orchids without getting a tan. I came up with this solution after finding my dear husband with sunglasses on at the morning coffee in the orchid room… makes for good light therapy during the dark winters up here in the north… we get about 6.5 hours of daylight in January.
