The summer is approaching. Two more weeks of work before some needed vacation time. The temperatures have been mercifully low for the season, making the cool vivarium easier to manage. This lovely Lepanthopsis floripecten is one of the lovely ochids in bloom in there at the moment. I love the long lasting flowers, looking like a delicate string of pearls glowing like gold moving slowly in the breeze. It is a warm to cool growing epiphyte from South Eastern Mexico down to Central- and Southern Tropical America where it grows at 300 to 2 400 meters. I grow it mounted in the cool vivarium, medium light, high humidity and good air circulation.
Lepanthopsis floripecten (Rchb.f.) Ames, Bot. Mus. Leafl. 1(9): 11 (1933).
It’s simply glorious! I am glad that the weather has been kind to your cool vivarium, and I hope they will remain so that when you go on your vacation you’ll get to relax with piece of mind 🙂
Wonderful to learn that the flowers are also long lasting!
Thanks! 🙂 I am a bit split on the weather… on one hand the cool weather is good for the orchids, but it would be very nice to get some summer heat for the vacation. I do hope we will get some summer weather soon.
I love these guys. I have a Lepanthopsis astrophora that stays in flower most of the year and grows under T8 fluorescents. The humitiy stays around 50% this time of year. Thanks for sharing. I surely could not grow a floripecten in my conditions.
Btw…it was 100 degrees here today..I’ll trade with you any day.
Thanks Jim! 🙂 Well… no, 100 degrees would make me quite miserable too. Hope you get a respite soon.
