Phalaenopsis floresensisLet me introduce you to the lovely Phalaenopsis floresensis. This sweet confection of an orchid looks a little bit like old fashioned vanilla ice cream with a tongue dipped in pink cotton candy. Add that to 3 spikes with 9 flowers in total and you got yourself a party!

Granted I bought this one already  in bud from Marita a few weeks ago so I cannot really take the credit for the flowers – but I will anyway, why not… lol.

Phalaenopsis floresensisAbsolutely gorgeous flower, but I am not 100% sure I am game with the scent… Gamey being the operative word here. To me it would be more fitting a bulbophyllum – and I know a few of you know what that means! To me it smells like a diaper, or a limb just taken out of a cast after being under wraps for 6 weeks. I think you get the picture… Luckily the scent isn’t very strong and the bellina overpowers anything for miles around.

Phalaenopsis bellinaI just finished watering all the orchids (- wow takes hours nowadays!) and I noticed an unbridled growth spurt across the board. Buds and flower spikes all over the place, and then there is of course, the Phalaenopsis floresensis. I think that the Phal bellina scent might be working as an intoxicating aphrodisiac for the orchids. Wonder if it works on people too?
