Wow, I thougth the plant I bought about 6 weeks ago was a little too small to bloom, but Look what I found when I was watering… the beginning of a flowerstalk!! Yay! This is very exciting news. I know I have told you guys before, but it was really the Phalaenopsis bellina that triggered the dream for a warm vivarium in the first place. I fell in love with the beautiful and fragrant flowers and desperately wanted to grow her. But knowing she would not easily bloom without a vivarium I waited, dreamed, and waited some more until last month when she finally arrived from France, from Les Orchidees (but through Marita Åkesson here in Sweden).
She obviously likes her new environment, about 26-28 degrees C durng the day and 15-17 at night, RH around 85-100%, planted in EpiWeb. What a reward that she wanted to bloom for me so soon!! Just what I needed after the Sciaridae battle… More on this as the drama unfolds…
Nice to read your sharing article.
I do like Phal. bellina as well.
From your picture, think it will take 3 month for bloom.
🙂 Hope to see your flower here.
Hi Poh Poh, and welcome to my blog. Yes, Phal bellina really is special. The spike has just cleared the leaves now (height wise) so it is growing very fast. I cannot wait to see (and smell) her for the first time! Wow, 3 months… well, it will be worth the wait no matter how long it takes – and I promise photos! 🙂 I have a young Phal cochlearis that is about to bloom for the first time as well. It is about a week or two ahead of the bellina, but I grow that one on the windowsill. We’ll see who blooms first.
[…] a long courtship since I first discovered the flower spike back in march, the Phalaenopsis bellina flower has finally opened up. And wow!! It was really worth the wait. […]
hi im guna from kuching sarawak where this plants originate from.these are my favourite AND HAVE AROUND 500 of them . they need 50% sunlight to bloom.very nice fragrant.u should visit here
Thanks Guna. 🙂 I can’t imagine seeing 500 Phalaenopsis bellina in bloom, but it must be a magnificent sight. I wish I could visit you and see it. I grow mine warm and humid under medium/low light and it blooms every spring about the same time. My clone does not have a very strong fragrance, but it is very nice.
