Finally… a shipping date for the mini orchids!

The mini-orchid order from Orchids & More has turned into somewhat of a farce… I wanted to get one quick last order in this season before it started getting to cold, and here we are 6 weeks later… Oh well. O&M are being nice about it so I am feeling good despite the wait. They are shipping out all new plants since they were the ones who got the address wrong the first […]

Mini-orchid order disaster!

Now I finally know what happened to my order from Orchids & More… I received an email from them today saying that they just got back the package they had sent out on the 27th. Wrong address, said DHL … they sent a pdf with the shipping ticket and wondered if I knew what was wrong.

It was quite obvious … the address was incomplete. I had ordered the package to my work so […]

Orchid show at Blomsterlandet

Today I went to the orchid show at Blomsterlandet on Backaplan. I did not have the greatest of expectations, but I was still disappointed… There were pretty much just a bunch of phal hybrids, bellara/cambria, and a bunch of other no-name hybrids… From the looks of things only one grower (Stenåsa from Varberg) was part of the exhibit. Maybe had I gone when they opened on Wednesday I would have found more…

None the less I […]

Still no mini-orchids

I emailed Orchid & More on Friday to ask for a tracking number for the package as it still has not gotten here. Now it is tuesday, and I have not heard back from them – nor gotten any package. I did however notice that my credit card was charged just this Sunday, maybe that is a good sign? Perhaps they did not get around to sending the package last Monday as promised. […]

Fall 2008: My orchids

Here is my growing window at the moment… a few orchids (5) are missing since I move them into the kitchen when they are blooming so we can enjoy them more.

My growing windowI have three 23W low energy CFL’s at the top (6000K, 96 CRI with an output of 1020 lumen). Then I have a “nebula hobby” light hanging from the middle shelf […]

Dang! The crash of the krona…

So I have been planning to place an order for some orchids from Germany for almost a week now. Doing the research and debating what to get… So I finally go and place the order today and find that the krona has taken a real beating and a euro now cost almost half a krona more than it did yesterday. That really bites!

UK orchid babies (01): 10 weeks

Orchid fask babies, UKAfter about a month I decided to rearrange in the nursery a little bit to get better humidity and to solv the temperature issues I have been dealing with…. it’s been working out really well.

I replanted the babies in tin cooking forms, then filled the mini-greenhouse bottom with leca and water. The leca works as an insulator, so now […]

UK orchid babies: 3 weeks

Orchid flask babies - UKAfter three weeks, everyone is looking great!!

My only concern is the temperature in the nurseries. I will start bringing down the temp in the growing room at night soon and it will definitely be too cold for these little ones. So I have installed a heating pad, like you would use to heat terrariums for reptiles. It […]

Ecuador orchid babies: 1 week

Dracula cordobae flask babies - mold!I picked up my 3 flasks from Ecuagenera in Ecuador at the Gothenburg International Orchid show this weekend. The Masdies looked good (decumana and infracta), but the Dracula cordobae came with a 2 cm large spot of mold in the agar. So I had to deflask the little ones right away, too bad […]

UK babies: Day 1

The babies arrived from Equatorial Plants in Durham UK by the end of August 2008. I had arranged a large order (50+ hobby flasks) together with some virtual friends on an orchid forum I frequent. It was quite s bit of logistics to pull together but it was fun.

I had 5 flasks with about 5 babies in each for myself in the order. They were technically not really flasks as the guys had […]
