A Paphiopedilum with the mumps!

Paphiopedilum Satin SmokeThis lovely creature, Paphiopedilum ‘Satin Smoke’, came in bud in my order from Schwerter last week. It has just begun to open up and show me that awesome chubby micranthum chin… I just love Paphiopedilum micranthum, but haven’t gotten one yet since they have a reputation for being a little hard. I’ll start with this one first.

This primary hybrid between Paphiopedilum […]

Spring orchids at the Botanical Gardens

It is a wonderfully sunny spring day today so we took a walk up to the Botanical Gardens in Gothenburg to check out the spring blooming orchids. We were not disappointed. There were tons of orchids in bloom and a myriad of intoxicating scents coming from all corners of the greenhouses. I took a few pictures and made a slideshow for you to all to see. So welcome in and enjoy the show, too bad we don’t […]

Clamshell chocolate anyone?

Prostechea cochleataAh, drum roll please! It is time for this years’ Prostechea cochleata flowering. The first bud just opened and there is one more not far behind, plus another set on deck. This particular orchid usually has a few flowers open at once, and when one set is done a new set is ready to open, which makes for very long flowering periods. Last year, this one bloomed for 8 months straight. It is a lovely […]

Paphiopedilum Ho Chi Minh

Paphiopedilum Ho Chi MinhGesundheit! No, seriously… Ho Chi Minh is the name of my lovely easter flower this year. Yes, of course it’s an orchid!  I bought this one from Karge at an orchid show a few weeks ago, and now the bud has finally opened. Just in time for the easter weekend!

It is a primary hybrid […]

The Angraecum florulentum saga continues…

Angraecum florulentum…but now it is starting to sound a bit more like a fairytale!  The first two buds have opened. They probably will open up a bit more, but I was so excited to see the beautiful crisp white waxy flowers that I just had to share. Especially after all the drama the past week… No detectible fragrance yet, but I am planning to […]

Ta-daaa!! The big showy American has arrived!

Paphiopedilum American HybridThis wonderfully showy Paphiopedilum American Hybrid is blooming now. From the impressive coloration I bet you can find at least one parent in the Subgenus Paphiopedilum, not unlikely from gratrixianum.

The big and glossy flower is a joy to behold and a real treat only about 3 months after transferring this plant into semi-hydro leca. You can see the amazing response […]

Paphiopedilum flower

Paphiopedilum hybridThis lovely (un-named) paph hybrid just opened up. It is the second flower on the same plant blooming right now, but it is quite obvious that I have two different kinds in the same pot… here is the “older brother”. They are equally stunning flowers, although this one looks feminine and soft, while the other one resembles a predator. It is […]

Ornithocephalus manabina orchid in bloom

35_Ornithocephalus_manabina_blom_2009-01-14My lovely little mini, Ornithocephalus manabina is blooming. It has actually been blooming for quite som time but the darn little thing is near impossible to photograph!! Of course it doesn’t help much that it is living in a half-meter wide tube (the nano)…

I fell in love with this specie at the Gothenburg international Orchid Show in October, but the grower was all out of […]
